Keeping champagne in the fridge is not a good idea

Winemaker Marie-Christine Osselin told the Huffington Post that the drink should be enjoyed fresh, but that it should only be kept in the refrigerator for a maximum of three or four days. When the champagne is stored there for more than four days or even for weeks, there is a risk of the cork stopper drying out, the drink loosening and then rusting, altering the aromas.

According to Marie-Christine Osselin, when champagne (or other sparkling wine) will not be consumed in the short term, it is best to store it in a cool, dry place free of sunlight.

If the champagne is stored in such a place, it may not even be necessary to put it in the refrigerator before drinking. The specialist advises that plunging the bottle into a bucket of cold water and ice for 15 to 20 minutes may be enough to enjoy the fresh drink and all the flavors that characterize it.
