Access to digital content in the European Union




The new rules on cross-border portability of online content services, effective as from 2018, will allow consumers access to purchased or signed digital content when they are temporarily in another country Of the EU.
 
To avoid abuses, service providers will check the country of residence of subscribers according to certain criteria.

Currently, citizens traveling within the EU may no longer have access to online content services, such as films, sports broadcasts, music, eBooks or games, which they have paid in their country of residence.
 
The regulation will have yet to be validated by the EU Council and published in the Official Journal of the EU, the new rules will apply nine months after its publication, ie in the first half of 2018.
